S&C Installs PureWave UPS at Redstone Arsenal

February 08, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

The S&C Electric Co. (Chicago, IL) announced that it has installed a PureWave UPS™ System for a government installation at the Redstone Arsenal in Alabama. The existing standby generator set needs 15 seconds to start up, which is too long for the facility’s computers to endure.

Facility managers sought an uninterruptible power supply system that could serve the computers for the crucial 15 seconds, and selected a PureWave UPS System, which is designed to protect an entire facility against voltage sags and power outages for a minimum of 30 seconds at 100-percent load.

The 480 V, 1,250 kVA/1,000 kW, PureWave UPS System was installed in December 2003, and is the first installation of the PureWave UPS System with a large, natural-gas-fueled generator set. The design of the PureWave UPS System provides maximum reliability at minimum cost, according to the company.
