Power Integrations Offers New PI Expert 4.0

May 13, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Power Integrations Inc. (San Jose, CA) announced a new version of its power supply design tool, PI Expert version 4.0, which now offers a more intuitive user interface, faster execution speed and new productivity-enhancing features. The new PI Expert software automates the design of single- and multiple-output flyback power supplies using the company’s TOPSwitch and TinySwitch product families.

PI Expert version 4.0 quickly determines the critical components for an efficient power supply. The improved graphical user interface enables engineers to increase productivity by allowing multiple designs to be opened simultaneously, allowing the side-by-side comparison of two designs; for example, one automatically produced by the software with minimal input from the designer, and another designed manually after the user has manually selected components. The best design can then be selected by comparing the results on-screen.

PI Expert determines the best-fit power IC, input capacitor and complete transformer design details in less than a minute. Other new features include a spreadsheet calculation tool and a viewer that allows designs created with prior versions of PI Expert to be viewed. The CD-ROM contains the design software, an updated library of the company’s data sheets and application notes, and demonstration files.
