ON Semi Opens Circuit Protection Applications Test Laboratory For Asia Pacific Region

December 09, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

ON Semiconductor debuted its new Circuit Protection Applications Test Laboratory in Shanghai, China. Housed in ON Semiconductor’s Shanghai office, the lab was established to support customers in Asia-Pacific and help speed their time-to-market.

This is the company’s first circuit protection test lab outside of the United States – and its second in the world – to offer extensive testing, problem resolution and consultancy to customers for circuit protection issues relating to international regulatory standards. The first lab is located in Phoenix, Arizona. The focus of the new China lab will be overvoltage protection for portable consumer products and telecommunications equipment such as cell phones and DSL modems.

ON Semiconductor’s lab will evaluate electronic components, sub systems or end products through a variety of ESD and surge event tests to establish susceptibility to failure and damage. Findings on tested components and product performance will be reported back to the customer with suggestions and recommendations on how to better meet the required regulatory standards of compliance.

This Circuit Protection Applications Test Lab can perform many of the surge tests needed to comply with industry regulatory standards including IEC 61000-4-4, IEC 61000-4-5, IEC 61000-4-11, ANSI/IEEE C62.41, UL 864, UL 1449, FCC Part 68, ITU Rec. K.17, K.20, K.21, K.45 Telcordia GR1089-CORE.

In addition to extensive testing capabilities, the lab will support customers with applications trouble-shooting, protection device benchmarking, characterization and proposals for new protection devices.

"China is the fastest growing market for ON Semiconductor," said M.K. Mak, ON Semiconductor VP of Marketing for Standard Products Group for Asia Pacific. "It was a strategic move to house our second Circuit Protection Applications Test Laboratory here in China. This move further demonstrates the company’s commitment to our customers in China and throughout the Asia-Pacific region."
