Oak Ridge Micro-Energy Reports Agreement

February 12, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Mark Meriwether, president of Oak Ridge Micro-Energy Inc. (Oak Ridge, TN), announced that the company has executed an agreement with UT-Battelle to license the thin-film battery technology developed by Dr. John Bates and his team while at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The company had previously held an option to license the technology from UT-Battelle. A key component of the license agreement is the investment in shares of Oak Ridge Micro-Energy made by UT-Battelle.

The license agreement covers the core of 18 patents that protect the thin-film battery developed by Bates and his team while at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. This technology may be the enabling component of future MEM devices, radio frequency identification systems, smart cards and advanced medical systems.
