NEC and FHI to Form Lithium-Ion Battery Firm

NEC Corp. (Japan) and Fuji Heavy Ind. Ltd. (FHI, Japan) have agreed to form a company that will develop a manganese lithium-ion-type rechargeable battery for automobiles. The newly formed company will be named NEC Lamilion Energy Ltd.

The company will develop the manganese lithium-ion battery and will also manufacture volume production samples to supply to major automobile manufacturers. NEC Lamilion also aims to improve the laminate-type battery cells for use in the manganese lithium-ion battery packs.

NEC Lamilion is set to begin operations with an initial workforce of 21 employees, 12 transferring from NEC and nine from FHI.
