Maxim Cautions Over Hijacked Parts for Sale in Asia

May 19, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Maxim Integrated Products Inc. (Sunnyvale, CA) reported that it has been notified by Malaysian authorities that the untested parts hijacked last month have been smuggled out of the country and are being offered for sale in Asia. The company reiterated that although these units are marked and appear complete, they had not gone through Maxim’s entire manufacturing process, including final test. Because of this, it is possible that these untested devices could cause systems to fail. The failure rate could be as high as 30%.

Maxim advises all of its clients and users that it does not warrant any of these devices and can not be responsible for damages caused by the use of any of the stolen units. The company advises against the purchase of the listed devices from any seller other than those approved by the company, listed on the company’s website. The company continues to offer a reward of $50,000 for evidence leading to the arrest and conviction of the responsible parties, including the recovery of the parts.
