Ericsson to Eliminate 165 Development Jobs

April 08, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Ericsson (Sweden) announced that it will eliminate up to 165 jobs in Karlstad, Sweden, as it extends its cost-cutting program in the face of continued sluggish demand for mobile-telecommunications equipment.

The company is beginning negotiations in Karlstad with employee unions, with an aim to cutting around 165 of the 630 research and development positions there, according to Ericsson spokeswoman Aase Lindskog. "We are always reviewing the organization to make it as efficient as possible. This is part of our effort to concentrate activities within development."
