EnerSys Receives NEBS Certification for PowerSafe VRLAs

March 21, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

EnerSys Inc. (Reading, PA), a manufacturer of industrial batteries, announced that its PowerSafe DDm line of valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) batteries has received NEBS Zone 4 seismic certification for 24 V and 48 V configurations. The certification enables telecommunications customers in the wireline and wireless segments to install DDm battery systems in earthquake-prone regions for central office and wireless site applications.

In order to receive the NEBS Zone 4 rating, the EnerSys DDm 24 V and 48 V configurations underwent and passed a number of tests, including flame retardancy; bonding and grounding; temperature, humidity and altitude effects; and earthquake office and transportation vibration. In addition, new steel framing able to withstand earthquake effects was certified by an independent third-party laboratory.
