Ener1 to Relocate Battery Manufacturing Facility

October 07, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Ener1 Holdings Inc. (Fort Lauderdale, FL) announced plans to relocate its battery manufacturing plant from Cagliari, Italy, to Fort Lauderdale by January 2002.

The company is currently conducting negotiations for the purchase of a 20,000sqft facility in Fort Lauderdale that will house its manufacturing plant and research laboratories.

"Fort Lauderdale provides us with easy access to major airports and ports, which will be important to our distribution plans," said Jonathan New, Ener1's COO. "Furthermore, the high quality of life will help us attract new employees as we build up our manufacturing capabilities."

Scientists at the Ener1 plant will focus on the research, development and production of primary/secondary lithium batteries based on lithium-metal and lithium-polymer chemistries for portable electronic applications, industrial applications, electric vehicles, and any other devices that require increased energy capacity, safety and re-chargeability.
