Alcatel to Develop Chinese Telecom Satellite

Alcatel (Paris, France) announced that its Alcatel Space unit has won an order from the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST) to help develop and construct China's first domestic telecommunications satellite.

Under the deal, Alcatel will supply the payload module, or electronic control equipment, for the satellite to be integrated with CAST's satellite platform, aimed at providing telecommunications and broadcasting services. No financial details were disclosed. The satellite is due for launch in 2005.
