Active Power Reports 1,000kVA UPS Initial Order

September 14, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Active Power Inc. (Austin, TX), a developer of battery-free, power quality products, announced two important milestones: the initial order of the international version of its new high-power, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), a 1,000kVA unit; and the shipment of its first 1,200kVA system.

The flywheel-based UPS 1000, which will ensure quality power, is delivered to critical medical equipment, will be delivered to a hospital in Belgium later this year. The 1,200kVA unit will be shipped to a customer in Illinois, and will be used to protect data center operations. Both systems were sold in conjunction with Active Power’s strategic partner, Caterpillar®.

"The quote activity and general interest in our new 1,000 and 1,200kVA systems has been very strong," offered Sriram Sivaram, vice president of sales and marketing for Active Power. "Given the typical 6 to 18 month sales cycle for these higher power systems, we are excited about our early success with this new product."
