March 21, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

ABB Electricity Metering (Raleigh, NC) reports that it has won an $8.0 million sales contract from the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE, Mexico) for its ION 8400 billing and power-quality meters. CFE will install the meters throughout its distribution system, in over 1,000 substations and 600 key customer sites. The ION 8400 meters will support CFE's new direct-access billing structures while also helping with the verification of power conditions throughout their distribution system.

“We are very excited to learn that CFE has chosen the ION 8400 to play an important part in their new metering network. The ION 8400 is an ideal fit for this demanding application, as it integrates state-of-the-art metering features with the ability to share real-time and historical information simultaneously with both their billing and power-quality engineering departments," stated John Reckleff, executive vice president and general manager of ABB Electricity Metering.
