XP Power Introduces New ac-dc Switchers for Medical Applications

June 11, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

XP Power plc has announced its latest medical, low-profile, ac-dc switchers — the PBM200 (200W) and PBM300 (300W) — combining the flexibility of up to four outputs with an MTBF of over 300,000 hours (MIL-HDBK-217F at 25 °C) and full medical agency safety approvals. The PBM200 is 7 x 4 x 1.5 inches (177.8 x 101.6 x 38.1mm) and the PBM300 7.5 x 4.5 x 1.75 inches (190.5 x 114.3 x 44.45mm).

There are 22 models in the PBM200 series and 21 in the PBM300 family. Output voltages are from 3.3Vdc to 48Vdc in single, dual, triple and quad-output versions. Designed primarily for medical applications, the PBM200 comes complete with a cover and integral fan and produces 200W, the unit is also available as a100W, convection cooled, U-channel supply. The equivalent PBM300 ratings are 300W and 150W respectively.

PBM series power supplies have dual input fusing, meeting requirements for European medical systems without additional external fusing. The units feature universal ac inputs of 90 to 264Vac, power density of up to 4.76 Watts per cubic inch and up to 80% efficiency. All models offer remote on/off and single output versions also have a remote sense function to compensate for up to 0.5V drop between the power supply output terminal and the load. Overtemperature, overload, overvoltage and short circuit protection are all built in.

The PBM200 and PBM300 are available now. Pricing starts at $129 each in 1000 piece quantities for the PBM200 and $182 each for the PBM300.
