Vishay Adds New SMD Capacitor Featuring Increased Voltages to 100V and Increased Capacitance to 1000µF

February 18, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announced that it has expanded its RoHS-compliant 153 CRV series of vertical SMD aluminum electrolytic capacitors with new devices that feature twice the voltage and twice the capacitance ratings of previous devices in the series.

Available in eight case sizes with measurements ranging from 4.0 mm by 4.0 mm by 5.3 mm to 10 mm by 10 mm by 14 mm, the new aluminum capacitors feature capacitance values from 0.47 to 1000 µF (previously 470 µF), with voltage ratings from 6.3 to 100V (previously 50V). Minimum operating useful life ranges from 2,000 to 3,000 hours at 105°C, or 200,000 to 300,000 hours at 40°C, respectively.

Vishay’s 153 CRV devices are charge- and discharge-proof, and will withstand surge voltages up to 1.15 times rated voltage, and reverse voltages up to 1 V, all applied under IEC 60384-18 specifications. The capacitors are compatible with lead (Pb)-free soldering processes as specified in the 153 CRV datasheet (Vishay document 28388), and their vertical SMD construction occupies a minimal amount of board space.

The new capacitors are suitable for applications such as filtering, smoothing, buffering, and decoupling in RoHS-compliant assemblies, including industrial controls, domestic appliances, automotive systems, SMPS, and telecom equipment, where the extension to 100V makes the 153 CRV especially valuable.

Samples and production quantities of the new 153 CRV aluminum capacitors are available now, with lead times of four to seven weeks for samples, and 13 to 16 weeks for production quantities.
