Sipex Announces SPX3819 LDO Regulator

July 29, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Sipex Corp. (Milpitas, CA) announced its new SPX3819, low dropout (LDO) linear regulator, which is now available in 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.0V, 3.1, 3.3V and 5.0V fixed-output voltages. The LDOs can deliver up to 500mA of continuous output current with 340mV of dropout voltage, and a low noise output of 40uVRMS (10Hz to 100kHz). The SPX3819 is suitable for portable applications such as cell phones and PDAs, where low dropout, low noise and small size are a must.

To optimize battery life, the SPX3819 operates at a range of 2.5V to 16V with a low supply current of 90µA, which drops to nearly 0 in shutdown. A LDO voltage of 340mV at full load current allows small voltage differential operation further extending operation time. The SPX3819 also reduces board space by providing fixed-output voltages, which eliminate the need for external voltage-setting resistors. Other key features include reverse battery protection, foldback current limit and load dump protection.

The SPX3819-1.8, SPX3819-3.0 and SPX3819-3.1 join the existing SPX3819 family of LDOs, which are also available with fixed-output voltages of 2.5V, 3.3V and 5.0V. All versions are currently available in a five-pin, SOT-23 package. Pricing starts at $0.75 each in 1,000-unit quantities.
