Nordic VLSI ASA Announces SoC RF IC

June 01, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Nordic VLSI ASA (Norway) announced the availability of a complete SoC RF IC for the 2.4GHz ISM band in a 6mm x 6mm, 36-pin QFN package. The chip consists of the nRF24E1 transceiver; the nRF24E2 transmitter; an 8051 microcontroller; a nine-channel, 12-bit, analog-to-digital converter; inductors; and filters; and is designed for integration into wireless mice and keyboards, hands-free sets, RFIDs, and industrial sensor applications.

The transceiver and transmitter parts are manufactured using a 0.18µm process and includes the features of the company's nRF2401/02 devices such as ShockBurst, DuoCeiver, on-chip CRC, and address computation/encoding. A complete system can be formed with the addition of external crystals, resistors and 4KB of EEPROM for initial program storage.
