Murata Releases AC-DC Front End Power Supplies For Servers, Workstations & Storage Systems

December 08, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

Murata Power Solutions announced the new C1U-W-1200-12-Tx and C1U-W-12-48-Tx ac-dc front end power supplies which are designed to provide 1200W (110/220VAC) of high efficiency, high density power. Packaged in a 1U industry standard low-profile height for chassis mounting, they are suitable for use in a wide range of distributed power and redundant (N+1) applications for the delivery of bulk power to servers, workstations and storage systems in sectors such as industrial, automation, test and measurement and control.

The 1U, power factor corrected (PFC) units feature a universal ac input. The C1U-W-1200-12-Tx has a main output of 12V and standby outputs of either 5 or 3.3V; the C1U-W-12-48-Tx has a main output of 48V and a choice of 5, 3,3 or 12V standby outputs.

Both power supplies feature active current sharing on their main output and have a high power density of 9.2W/ cu. inch that helps minimise space required in customer applications. Efficiency levels of 90.6% promote lower cost of operation and reduce the need for thermal management in addition to the cooling fans built into the power supplies.

Safety features of the C1U-W-1200-12-Tx and C1U-W-12-48-Tx include over-voltage, over-current and over-temperature protection with auto-recovery. The RoHS compliant units have overall dimensions of 42.5 (1.67in.) x 139.7 (5.5in.) x 361.2mm (14.2in.). Operating temperature range is 0 to +50°C and demonstrated mean time before failure (MTBF) is 200K hours.
