Molex Releases iCool VRM Connector
Molex Inc. (India) released its first voltage regulator module (VRM) connector that supports VRMs in 1U servers, the iCool, which can be used with small form-factor PCs and workstations. Incorporating a low-loop inductance design, the product was created for high-output currents at high slew rates. It is designed for VRM 10.0 applications, including VRM 10.2, and can handle up to 130 A of output current in 4 in connectors.
The iCool connector includes 20 signal contacts for VR control, 72 power contacts for 12 V input current and up to 130 A of output current. Four fork locks secure the connector to the PCB to resist shock and vibration, and selectively gold-plated contacts provide electrical stability for long-term reliability. Initially designed for 1U server applications, optional versions are also available for 2U servers and larger platforms with ambient air temperatures up to 60 °C.
