Micrel Presents New MIC5249 LDO Regulator

September 09, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Micrel Semiconductor Inc. (San Jose, CA) announced a new tiny low-dropout regulator (LDO) for power-up sequencing in microprocessors, the MIC5249, which is capable of providing up to 300mA and is equipped with a user-programmable, power-on reset, delay feature. It is suitable for cellular phones and portable computers.

The MIC5249 allows the user to program a delay on the RESET pin that alerts the processor when the output of the LDO has reached and settled on its intended value, allowing the processor to come up gradually. The LDO is also capable of alerting the processor when a fault condition occurs and the output is out of regulation.

The MIC5249 is a stable uCap regulator with smaller ceramic output capacitors, eliminating the need for larger, less reliable, tantalum capacitors. When purchased in quantities of 1,000, pricing for the MIC5249 starts at $0.90. Samples are available, and production quantities are stock to eight weeks ARO.
