Maxim Offers Low-Output-Voltage Linear Regulator For Always-On Applications

August 04, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

Maxim Integrated Products introduced the MAX16999, a low-output-voltage linear regulator capable of delivering up to 100mA for always-on applications. Designed as a parallel supply for powering the core or interrupt section of a microcontroller during sleep mode, this device consumes a mere 13µA of quiescent current. To further reduce power consumption, the device provides an enable input for placing the regulator in shutdown, in which it consumes only 0.3µA.

Available in 13 factory-preset output voltages ranging from 0.5 to 3.3V, the MAX16999 eliminates the need for external feedback resistors. This device is suitable for always-on automotive and industrial applications that require high reliability and low power consumption.

Designed for harsh operating environments, the MAX16999 features overcurrent and overtemperature protection, as well as power-on-reset circuitry with adjustable timing. The device is fully specified over the -40 to +125°C automotive temperature range, and is available in a thermally enhanced, 8-pin µMAX® package.

Prices start at $0.70 (1000-up, FOB USA).
