MagnaChip Launches WXGA AMOLED Driver IC for Mobile Applications
MagnaChip Semiconductor Corporation announced the launch of its Wide Extended Graphics Array "WXGA" (1280x768) AMOLED driver IC (model: EA8061) targeted for use in smartphone applications. One of the distinct advantages of the WXGA-level driver IC is its extremely high video display resolution, a unique feature not found in standard AMOLED drivers.
MagnaChip is ramping production of the EA8061 and delivering the AMOLED driver IC to a major Korean electronics manufacturer for use in selected Android-based smartphones this year. MagnaChip introduced its first AMOLED driver IC in 2004 and has been successfully delivering AMOLED driver ICs for use in smartphones, digital still cameras and game consoles.
The EA8061 supports high-definition video based on RGB stripes and features Mobile Industry Processor Interface Display Serial Interface (MIPI DSI), Content Adaptive Brightness Control (CABC), Automatic Current Limit (ACL) and Multi Power Saving (MPS) to deliver performance efficiency and low power consumption.
"The launch of the EA8061 driver enhances our product portfolio of display products and strengthens our presence in the AMOLED driver IC market," said H.K. Kim, EVP and General Manager of MagnaChip's Display and Power Solutions. "With the EA8061, we intend to target applications beyond smartphones and mobile applications solidifying our position as one of the top two global AMOLED driver IC designers and manufacturers."
