LTC Unveils LTC1844 VLDO Linear Regulator

June 01, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Linear Technology Corp. (LTC, Milpitas, CA) announced the LTC1844 very low dropout (VLDO), micro-power, linear regulator that can deliver up to 150mA of continuous output current from a ThinSOT™ package. The LTC1844 can operate from input voltage as low as of 1.6V, making it suitable for single-cell, lithium-ion, multi-cell alkaline or nickel-metal hydride applications.

The LTC1844 is available with an adjustable output, or with fixed outputs ranging from 1.5V to 3.3V. At 50mA of continuous output current, dropout voltage is only 30mV, rising to 90mV at 150mA. The LTC1844 maintains an output-voltage accuracy of +1.75% over the full temperature, voltage, and current ranges, and offers a low-profile (<1mm) ThinSOT package, tiny external 1µF ceramic capacitors, a supply current of only 40µA (operating), and 10nA (in shutdown).

The LTC1844 is available with an adjustable output, or with fixed 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V, 2.8V and 3.3V outputs. All versions are available from stock in a five-lead, ThinSOT package. Pricing starts at $1.15 for 1,000-piece quantities.
