Linear Technology Debuts LTC1705 Controller

New Products Oct 03, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Linear Technology Corp. (Milpitas, CA) announced its new LTC1705, a complete power supply controller that includes two switching regulator controllers to provide power to the CPU core and I/O. These two regulator controllers operate 180 degrees out-of-phase, minimizing the number of input capacitors required.

The controller operates at 550kHz switching frequency and offers increased efficiency. It also reduces solution cost by eliminating the need for current-sense resistors. Applications include embedded systems, SBCs and notebook PCs.

The power supply controller complies with both Intel and AMD mobile CPU voltage codes—from 0.9V to 2V. Each output can deliver up to 20A to the load with up to 90 percent efficiency. The integrated LDO can provide up to 150mA load current.

The LTC1705, in a 28-lead SSOP, is rated for operation from -40 to +85 degrees C. Pricing starts at $5.35 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
