Leviton Unveils 32A Home Charging Station to Meet Requirements of Next Generation of Electric Vehicles

April 18, 2012 by Jeff Shepard

Leviton unveiled the latest entry to its Evr-Green™ line of residential, commercial and public electric vehicle charging systems – the Evr-Green 320 Level 2 Home Charging Station. The new device provides up to 32A at 240Vac (7.7 kW output) – reducing the charge time of any SAE J1772™ compatible electric vehicle by seven percent when compared to leading competitors. The charging station has been specifically designed to meet the needs of the next generation electric vehicles with larger on-board chargers, enabling consumers to "future-proof" their charging needs.

Designed and assembled in the United States, the Evr-Green 320 Level 2 Home Charging Station includes a three-year limited warranty, and as with the entire Evr-Green line, complies with all industry safety and performance standards, including the current National Electrical Code®. The device’s durable, weatherproof NEMA Type 4 steel enclosure easily installs in a cord connected installation when used with a Pre-Wire Installation Kit or can be converted to a hard-wired installation if required. The charging station is also available with either an 18- or 25-foot charging cable which provides more flexibility for mounting locations.

"Safety, efficiency and reliability are the hallmarks that all Leviton products stand for, and as we continue to expand our Evr-Green line of electric vehicle chargers we aim to deliver unique offerings that build upon those qualities," said Michael Mattei, Vice President and General Manager for Leviton’s Commercial and Industrial Business Unit. "The Evr-Green 320 Level 2 Home Charging Station further showcases Leviton’s commitment to providing our customers with solutions that combine quality with ease-of-use."

As an added customer safety feature, Leviton designed the home device with a ground monitor circuit and built-in communication to verify proper connection before charging can commence. The device’s "Auto-Restart" feature enables charging to restart following a minor fault, thereby reducing the chance of being stranded with an undercharged battery.

Leviton’s entire residential family of Evr-Green solutions has an elegant design that enables modularity and common footprint, with carefully selected materials that are environmentally friendly, including lead-free electronics and minimized packaging waste through the use of recycled content. The Evr-Green 320 Level 2 Home Charging Station will be available through Leviton’s distribution channels: e-store, electrical distributors, retail partners and automakers in mid-April.
