Lambda Adds NV-180 Single-Output Power Supply

New Products Jun 01, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Lambda Electronics Inc. (San Diego, CA) introduced its new NV-180, a 180 W single-output power supply that delivers an 9.6 W/in³ in an industry-standard 3 in x 5 in footprint, up to 90% efficiency and EMC performance. The NV-180 is a part of Lambda’s NV-Power Series of high-density, environmentally friendly, ac-dc power supplies, and is suitable for use in high-density medical, process control, and test and measurement equipment.

The NV-180 is built on Lambda’s patented multiple resonant topology, which uses synchronous rectification to achieve high efficiency and allows reduced power loss without compromising size for power. The new power supply measures 3 in x 5 in x 1.25 in, making it compatible with 1U enclosures. Moreover, its open-frame construction and absence of power components on the underside of the board make the unit easy to cool.

The Lambda NV-180 is initially available with outputs of 5 V, 12 V and 24 V and with currents up to 25 A. It is also available with an optional high-power, standby output rated at 5 V, 2 A; remote on/off; and power good signal. In addition, a cover option may be specified. The NV-180 has low emissions, aided by the use of silicon-carbide schottky diodes, as well as EN60601 medical approval combined with EN55022 Level B conducted emissions, and EN61010 and EN60950 approvals.

The NV-180 is available now, priced at $89 each in 100-unit quantities.
