Foshan Kestar Electronic Co. Ltd. (Guangdong, China) announced its new MYE70-781 high-load varistor, which withstands a peak current of 70kA for 8µs to 20µs, enabling the device to be used in surge-absorption applications in broadcasting devices, industrial power systems and to protect semiconductors such as transistors, diodes and thyristors.

The device is housed in a plastic package that can be directly mounted on a power distribution board. The company is also offering a version of the varistor that can handle up to 110kA. The component is rated at 640Vdc and 485Vac and dissipates 1.6W. It has a clamping voltage of 1.29kV at 500A and operates over the temperature range of -40 to +85 degrees C.
