Digital System Monitors and Controls Telecom Power

December 05, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Unipower Telecom's new DSC1000 is a digital system controller for monitoring and controlling telecom power systems. Occupying 1U of rack space, the new controller features local or remote monitoring of 12, 24 or 48V power systems and is particularly suited for use with Unippower Telecom's Sigma, Radian and Ranger Series rectifiers.

Communication is via an Ethernet TCP/IP connection with optional SNMP (simple network management protocol). The DSC1000 can control and supervise up to 128 rectifiers in 32 shelves using I²C data over a standard telephone cable with RJ11 connectors. This allows the controller to measure and monitor a large number of system parameters including bus status, battery status, rectifier and load current, overvoltage, rectifier failure, AC power fail and battery overtemperature. Users can also define up to six parameters of their choice.

The unit's front panel has an LCD matrix display, 16 LED indicators and an 8-key touch pad. It can be programmed via the touch pad or by using any standard web browser that is Java enabled.

Other features include up to 8 Form C relay alarms, battery temperature compensation, up to 8 digital inputs for monitoring, and control of two Low Voltage Disconnects.

The DSC1000 is priced at $750 in volume and is available from stock.
