Cobasys Introduces New Bridge Battery Backup System

New Products Feb 21, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Cobasys announced its new NiGUARD BRIDGE™ Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) emergency backup power system. The NiGUARD BRIDGE battery system technology, based on Cobasys’ advanced, proprietary Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) chemistry, is claimed by the company to be a reliable, scalable alternative to flywheels.

The Bridge system is capable of delivering 15 seconds of power, 3 times within 30 minutes without recharge in UPS applications. The company claims that the system is virtually maintenance-free, easily monitored, environmentally-friendly and has a lower total cost of ownership. It is also claimed that the system can be expanded to an unlimited degree to meet higher power requirements, longer backup times or redundant backup solutions.

Cobasys designs and manufactures advanced energy storage system solutions which feature NiMH battery technology for transportation markets, including Hybrid Electric Vehicles, Electric Vehicles and 36/42V applications, in addition to Stationary Back-Up power supply systems for UPS, Telecom and Distributed Generation markets.

Cobasys is a joint venture between Chevron Technology Ventures LLC, a subsidiary of Chevron Corp. and Energy Conversion Devices Inc..
