Bel Power Solutions Unveils 400W Medical and Industrial Power Supplies
The units work with input ranges of 90-264 VAC and feature single voltage outputs of 12, 24, 28, 36 or 48 VDC
The MBC401 Series (medical) and the ABC401 Series (industrial) both feature typical efficiencies of 94%. The devices all fit into 1U (1 ¾ inch) rack spaces and are available in U-channel, enclosed, open frame, perforated cover and vented cover configurations. In addition to their single output voltage, all units also offer 5 volt, 2 amp standby and 12 volt, 1 amp auxiliary outputs.

Other Features in Common to the Medical and Industrial Series
The open frame, U-chassis, and perforated cover versions are cooled by convection/forced air. The vented cover and enclosed versions are cooled by a top fan and a front-mounted fan, respectively. For both the medical and industrial series, the 28-volt output versions are only available in the U-chassis configurations. The 12, 24, 36, and 48-volt versions are each available in any of the five package types.
- Over current and short circuit protection as well as over temperature protection
- Peak output current of 440 watts
- Standby power consumption is less than 0.5 watts.
- Output voltage set point accuracy is 0.5%
- Line regulation is ±0.1%
- Remote on/off and power-good signal.
- Display the CE-Mark for the European Low Voltage Directive (LVD)
- RoHS compliant
Maximum load capacitances vary by output voltage, but are otherwise the same for the medical and industrial versions:
- 12 Volts: 33,000µF
- 24 volts: 16,000µF
- 28 volts: 14,300µF
- 36 volts: 10,000µF
- 48 volts: 7,000µF
As all units furnish 400 watts, unsurprisingly they are all approximately the same size, varying by package size only. As an example, all eight of the power supplies, four medical and four industrial, that are built using a vented cover package are 3.32 x 7.20 x 1.61 inches in size.
The Industrial ABC401 Series
Members of the ABC401 series offer protection against input under voltage and output over voltage. Low earth current is less than 300µA, and touch leakage current is 100µA.
Applications Include
- IT equipment
- Video wall displays
- Entertainment
- ATMs
- Telecommunications
- Test and measurement equipment
- 3D printing
- Industrial process control
- Industrial laser applications
Regulatory Considerations
- IEC/EN/UL 60950-1 compliance
- EN55032, FCC Class B, conducted radiated emissions
- EN55024 immunity
The Medical MBC401 Series
Because of the likelihood of intimate contact with unprotected areas of the human body, medical electronic devices are subject to far more rigorous safety regimes than their industrial cousins are. We detail some of these important concerns in a previous article.
In accordance with these important concerns, members of the MBC401 series offer two means of protection (2x MoPP) and are suitable for type BF (body floating) rated applied parts. Maximum leakage current is 300µA.
Applications
- Laboratory devices
- Imaging equipment
- Diagnostic equipment
- Therapy appliances
- Respiratory devices
- Dermatology and aesthetic medicine devices
- Dental equipment
Regulatory Considerations
- IEC/EN 60601-1 3rd ed. compliant
- ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 3rd ed. Compliant
- EN 61000-3-2 Class Compliant
