AnalogicTech Announces MicroPower LDO Regulators

April 06, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Advanced Analogic Technologies Inc. (AnalogicTech, Sunnyvale, CA), a developer of power management solutions, announced its new MicroPower™ family of compact, low dropout (LDO), linear regulators optimized for portable applications. The new regulators are suitable for powering demanding circuits with fast switching requirements in cellular phones, portable communications devices, notebook computers and digital cameras.

There are four devices in the new product family, the AAT3216, AAT3237, AAT3218 and AAT3238. The AAT3216 serves a wide variety of applications where current load requirements range from 0mA to 150mA. The device features a PowerOK flag, which signals when V(out) is in regulation. The AAT3216 also adds a low 70µA quiescent current, a low dropout voltage of less than 200mV at full output current, output short-circuit and over-temperature protection. For CDMA phones that require regulated output up to 300mA, the AAT3237 features a 70µA quiescent current, but the dropout voltage is typically less than 400mV at its full 300mA output current. The AAT3237 also adds a PowerOK signal, high PSRR, a low-power shutdown mode, and short-circuit and over-temperature protection.

For cellular baseband applications, the AAT3218 features a high-speed turn-on, typically 15µs, with a low 70uA quiescent current and typical dropout voltage of 200mV at 150mA. The AAT3218 also adds short-circuit and over-temperature protection and a low-power shutdown mode to extend battery life. The AAT3238 offers a guaranteed 300mA output. The AAT3238 combines high-speed turn-on and turn-off performance with a low quiescent current. It also adds a reference bypass pin to maximize PSRR performance and the same protection and shutdown circuits.

The AAT3216 is available in a compact five-pin SOT23 or an eight-pin SC70JW package in 12 factory-programmed voltages ranging from 1.2V to 3.5V. The AAT3218 is available in the same packages in 15 factory-programmed voltages across the same range. The AAT3237 comes in a six-pin SOT23 or eight-pin SC70JW in 13 factory-programmed voltages between 1.2V and 3.5V. The AAT3238 is available in the same two packages as the AAT3237 in 12 factory-programmed voltages across the same range of values. Pricing starts at $0.41 and $0.39 per piece for the AAT3216 and AAT3218, respectively, for 1,000-piece quantities. Also in 1,000-piece quantities, pricing starts at $0.61 and $0.56, respectively, for the AAT3237 and AAT3238.
