AEGIS Power Systems, Inc., a Vicor Custom Design Center, announced the release of its new VME550 Series of rugged, reliable power supplies for aerospace, defense, industrial, and telecom applications. The VME550 operates from 28Vdc and offers scalable power in a smaller size and lighter weight than traditional dc power supplies. It is available as a 6U x 4hp single-slot conduction-cooled power card and also as a 6U x 8hp dual-slot air-cooled power card. The VME550 products feature 18-36Vdc input with capability of one to six dc outputs (one output can be negative). The standard product, the VME550-001, offers four dc outputs (3.3V up to 224W, 5V up to 224W, and ±12V up to 112W each) with a combined total output power capability of 550W and efficiency greater than 86%.

The VME550 Series utilizes proven, high-performance Vicor V.I Chip power conversion technology and incorporates the new Vicor M-FIAM7B front end module to provide a scalable, flexible, open-ended bus structure capable of full 550W output from -40 to 85°C base plate temperature.

These new power supplies, designed as plug-in replacements for the VME450 Series, offer a number of key enhancements. The power supplies are compliant to MIL-STD-810F for shock and vibration, MIL-STD-461E for electromagnetic interference, as well as MIL-STD-704A/F and MIL-STD-1275D for transient protection. All are EU compliant and are CE marked to the Low Voltage Directive 2006/95/EC. Usability is improved with keyed connector options that allow for the installation of multiple supplies in one chassis and dual-inhibit controls for configurable output inhibit control.
