Uni-Solar Ovonic’s PV Systems to Power Beijing Museum
United Solar Ovonic Corp. (Uni-Solar Ovonic, Auburn Hills, MI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Energy Conversion Devices Inc. (ECD, Rochester Hills, MI), announced the signing of a new contract to provide a 300 kW solar photovoltaic (PV) system for the Beijing New Capital Museum. The contract was signed in conjunction with a mission to China led by US Secretary of Commerce Donald Evans that includes the US Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao and the President’s Export Council.
Scheduled to open to the public in 2005, the museum will be among one of the most modern museums featuring advanced, environmentally friendly energy technologies. Of the lightweight, rugged and flexible PV laminates, 300 kW will be applied directly to the stainless steel roofing pans using the "peel-and-apply" adhesive. This integrates the PV array with the roofing material itself. The completed system, designed by Uni-Solar Ovonic, is expected to deliver more than 363,000 kW/h of energy annually.
