SION Power Announces Move to New, Larger Facility

August 06, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

SION Power Corp. announced the expansion of its operation in Tucson, Arizona. SION, a developer of lithium sulfur (Li-S) rechargeable battery technology, will relocate to a new 67,000 square foot facility. This represents nearly doubling total floor space over SION’s current facility, including a 100% increase in dry room space.

The relocation is part of an expanded R&D and pilot production effort by the company. Included in the new operation will be proprietary high speed vacuum deposition technology to enhance anode performance, new cathode mixing and coating systems and an increase in cell and battery testing capability.

"This is an exciting time for SION Power," said Dr. Dennis Mangino, SION’s CEO. "This expansion underscores the long term commitment of our investors and will accelerate the development and commercialization of our Li-S battery technology."

Military portable power and electricVehicles are two key markets for SION’s Li-S, high energy battery technology. SION is currently adding scientists and engineers in the areas of vacuum deposition and slurry coating to complement the new equipment and facility additions. The relocation should be completed by January 2008. Total capital expenditure will exceed $15 million.
