Schneider Electric and Leviton Sign Agreement

January 23, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Schneider Electric (Palatine, IL) and Leviton Manufacturing Co. (Little Neck, NY) announced that they have agreed to jointly explore the development of a residential structured media system for existing homes. As part of the agreement, a team consisting of members of both companies will work on developing feasible prototype systems during the first part of 2003. Current plans would have each company independently market and sell the products. Following initial discussions, both companies will decide on future direction and initiatives.

"The proliferation of wired and wireless network technology in recent years has presented homeowners with many voice, video and data communications options and products that, unfortunately, are not easily integrated with each other into simple and manageable systems," said Mike Harley, Chief Development Officer and Strategist for Schneider Electric's North American Division. By overcoming the need to install large amounts of additional wiring, retrofitting existing homes with new structured media technology can become much more affordable."
