The S&C Electric Co. (Chicago, IL) has been awarded the contract to construct a wind-turbine collector system and interconnect substation, including all underground and overhead distribution, on a turnkey basis for the Horseshoe Bend Wind Park in Montana. The owner of the wind park, United Materials (Great Falls, MT), operates a mining facility that is currently powered by diesel generation.
The new wind park will replace the diesel generation and not only provide 4 MW of clean power to the mining facility, but also 5 MW of power to the 100 kV transmission grid of Northwestern Energy. The developer, Exergy Development Group LLC, working with United Materials and S&C Electric will complete the project by early 2005.
