ON Semiconductor Jointly Establishes Power Lab with Kingvon in China

May 18, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ONNN) announced that it has jointly established a new power laboratory with Kingvon Group - China's largest set-top box manufacturer. The establishment of the joint lab further underscores ON Semiconductor's long-term commitment to provide energy-saving power solutions to indigenous customers in China.

Located at Kingvon's office in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, the lab will focus on extending ON Semiconductor's power solutions including pulse-width modulation (PWM) controllers and power factor correction (PFC) devices into Kingvon's set-top box and next generation products comprising digital cameras, mobiles, printers, notebooks and LCD products.

"Energy conservation is an important development strategy for the Chinese government," said David Chow, ON Semiconductor vice president of Sales for Asia Pacific. "As a global leading supplier of power management solutions, ON Semiconductor is committed to power efficiency with advanced technologies and solutions."

"Our highly efficient and energy-saving power solutions meet or exceed Chinese and international regulations for power efficiency and standby power consumption. Through the joint lab with Kingvon Group, our proven power management solutions will help Kingvon optimize power efficiency and minimize standby power consumption in their products, meeting consumers' increasing demand for high performance and rich features," said Chow.

"Our strategic partnership with ON Semiconductor will enable Kingvon to continue our edge in power efficiency for set-top boxes, as we expect a three digit year-on-year growth in set-top box market in China in the coming three to five years," said Chen Wen-ying, technical director general of Kingvon Electronic Science and Technology Co. Ltd. "We also hope to leverage ON Semiconductor's power management leadership into our other product lines."

To help Kingvon succeed with its business plans, ON Semiconductor has assigned a resident field application engineer to the joint lab to work closely with Kingvon's development teams to build on their time-to-market access with energy-saving set-top boxes and other next-generation products.

ON Semiconductor is one of the world's top 10 suppliers of power management devices, with portfolios of both analog products and integrated power products. The company's presence in China includes design centers in Hong Kong and Shanghai, and a manufacturing joint venture at Leshan in Sichuan Province, western China. ON Semiconductor has also been working closely with the China Standard Certification Center (CSC, formerly CECP), which certifies energy-efficient products, as its only chip partner, driving the development of energy conservation and efficiency in China.
