February 03, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

iPower Technologies Inc. (Anderson, IN), Electricore, Purdue School of Engineering and Technology, and Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) have received recommendation from the Indiana 21st Century Fund's board to receive an $873,756 joint technology grant. The purpose of the grant is to develop a system for connecting independent power generation units and plants with the public utility electrical grid.

The new distributed generation system control will combine with the current research at IUPUI to incorporate the new IEEE 1547 interconnectivity standards into control products imbedded within the next generation of 75 kW and 150 kW iPower units. The new grants were announced as part of the state's fifth round of $32.3 million awards from the 21st Century Fund. Created by the General Assembly in 1999, the awards program assists joint ventures between Hoosier companies affiliated with an in-state university for advanced technology and economic development ventures and projects. The recommendation will now be presented to the State Budget Committee for final approval.
