Dynex Delivers STATCOM Equipment to Alstom

News Oct 20, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Dynex Semiconductor Ltd. (Lincoln, UK), a leading power semiconductor technology company, has completed delivery of 90 GTO-based power electronic "link" assemblies for a £1.5M order placed by ALSTOM's Transmission and Distribution Sector. The total contract has been supplied within the agreed timescale. The Alstom and Dynex partnership has been successful due to the joint efforts of the engineering and assembly expertise within both companies. Dynex built a dedicated assembly and test area at its Lincoln, UK, facility and also undertook a restructuring of its engineering resource to facilitate the successful completion of the order.

The equipment is part of a STATCOM installation for Northeast Utilities, and its Connecticut Light & Power subsidiary, which plans to meet the growing energy needs in the region and alleviate potential difficulties in ensuring a reliable supply to its customers. The equipment will improve the reliability of supplies during the peak load summer months by providing rapid support for momentary and long-term voltage fluctuations.

Michael LeGoff, president and CEO, said, "This marks the completion of the first step up from manufacturing semiconductor assemblies to complete sub-systems. Our partnership with Alstom Transmission and Distribution has grown stronger over the years and the initial placement of the STATCOM order demonstrated the faith Alstom have put in Dynex and its engineering and manufacturing expertise."
