APC Announces PowerChute Software

January 20, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

American Power Conversion (APC, West Kingston, RI) announced the expansion of its family of power management software with the introduction of the PowerChute Personal Edition for the Mac OS X operating system. The system shutdown software has power management functions and is suitable for APC Back-UPS users protecting their computers from power problems.

The PowerChute Personal Edition offers default settings that provide first-time users with optimal protection, while seasoned users will appreciate the ability to tailor the software's behavior to their individual circumstances. Users can customize shutdown behavior by configuring the software to run an external script before shutting down the system, and can also choose between keeping their Mac on as long as possible versus shutting down quickly to preserve battery power for successive outages.

The software will ship standard with APC's translucent Back-UPS Pro 500 universal serial bus-ready UPS. The PowerChute Personal Edition for Mac OS X will be available in March 2002.
