Vox Power’s 600W Modular Power Supplies Offer up to Eight Isolated Outputs

June 03, 2021 by Gary Elinoff

The field configurable PSUs measure only 5 x 3 x 1.61 inches and can simultaneously accommodate as many as four separate output modules

The NEVO+600 from Vox Power is available in both medical (NEVO+600M) and in industrial (NEVO+600S) versions. The modules support a wide range of outputs, ranging from dual 75 watt isolated outputs to a single 300 watt output. Users can “mix and match” up to four output modules to provide up to 600 watts total.

One of the prime benefits of both versions is the simplification of power solutions. A variety of power profiles can be generated from one source. Under the right circumstances, a lot of troublesome cabling can be eliminated, saving space and eliminating a persistent source of difficulty in power design.

Features Common to the Medical and Industrial Versions

Both units operate over an input range of 85 to 264 VAC. No load power consumption ranges run between 21 and 28 watts. Efficiency is up to 89% and the power factor is spec’d at 0.99 (max).

At full power, the NEVO+600 series power supply units (PSU) offer a power density of 25 watts per cubic inch. The units can operate in a constant voltage or constant current modes.  Holdup time is 20 ms.

An optional 5V 1A bias output can also be accommodated when needed.

The units feature intelligent fan control, providing just the right air flow based on temperature and power load. If especially low noise operation is required, a low noise fan option is available

Output Module Options for Both Units

Users can themselves can easily install the modules and adjust the voltages as illustrated in this video. The outputs can generally be combined in series or parallel for added current or voltage

OP1:   1.5 - 7.5 volts, 25 amps, 125 watts

OP2:   4.5 – 15 volts,  15 amps, 150 watts

OP3:   9 - 30 volts,  7.5 amps, 150 watts

OP4:   18 - 58 volts, 3.75 amps, 150 watts

OP5:   Dual 3.3 - 15 Volts, 5 amps 2 x 75 watts

OP8:   Dual 24 volts, 3.125 amps, 2 X 75 watts

OPA2: 4.5 -15 volts, 25 amps, 300 watts

OPA3: 9 V-30 volts, 15 amps, 300 watts

By way of explanation, OP1, for example, can deliver 5 volts at 25 amps for 125 watts. If the user adjusts the voltage upwards (up to 7.5 volts), the maximum output is still limited to 125 watts, with the available current decreased so that the total output keeps to within 125 watts.

Physical

  • The unit operates over a range of -20 to +70℃, with output current derating beginning at 50℃
  • Both 5 x 3 x 1.61 inch units weigh 600 grams

Regulatory Considerations

The NEVO+600S:

  • IEC/UL60950 2nd Edition compliant
  • IEC/UL62368-1 2nd Edition compliant

The NEVO+600M:

  • IEC/UL60601-1 3rd Edition medical safety standard compliant
  • IEC/UL60601-1-2 4th Edition EMC standard compliant

Safety Concerns

For the medical version:

  • Earth Leakage Current is a maximum of 300 µA

For the industrial version:

  • Earth Leakage Current is 1500 µA (max)

Getting to Market Faster

Vox Power offers an evaluation kit for the NEVO+600 devices

A 1200W Version is also available

The NEVO+1200 delivers 1200W. Its size is 6 x 6 x 1.61 inches and it weighs 1.2kg when fully configured. This device can accommodate as many as eight output modules, similarly ranging from 75W dual output to 300W single output. With this device, up to sixteen isolated outputs are possible.
