Tyco Offers Z1 AdvancedTCA Power Connector

New Products Jul 21, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Tyco Electronics (Harrisburg, PA) has released into production its new Z1 Power Connector, designed to satisfy the PICMG® 3.0 Specification, also known as AdvancedTCA. The Z1 Power Connector combines very high conductivity materials with precision formed selectively plated contacts to produce high current carrying capability while keeping costs minimized. The connector uses design and manufacturing technologies common to many of Tyco Electronics new power and backplane connectors.

"This approach ensures compatibility with our customers' printed circuit board processing and application environments, and ensures high reliability of the press-fit terminations," comments Mike Blanchfield, Global Product Manager, Tyco Electronics power connectors.

The connector satisfies the higher-density power levels of future equipment as defined in the AdvancedTCA Standard. The connector also offers four levels of sequencing, which includes a first-mate power/ground pin and a last-mate enable/signal pin, and is rated for 250 durability cycles. The backplane connector meets international safety standards for "touch-safe" applications. Both the backplane and linecard connectors are fully intermateable and interchangeable with the existing power connector defined in the PICMG 3.0 Standard.

Samples and literature (Datasheet #9-1773440-7) of the Z1 Power Connector are currently available. Pricing is $7.88 and $9.75 each for the backplane connector and linecard connector, respectively, in 500 piece quantities.
