TDK Semi Intros Family of Smart Card Interface ICs
TDK Semiconductor Corp. (Irvine, CA), a leader in mixed-signal communication semiconductors, debuted three new smart card interface circuits: the TDK 73S8023C, 73S8024C and the 73S8010C. The chips possess high efficiency of 85% and a small size step-up/step-down converter that provides high card current capability, with up to 100 mA supplied to the card.
The new TDK circuits are suitable for battery-powered and power-sensitive applications, such as portable point-of-sales terminals, PIN-pad readers and payphones, as well as any portable smart-card-based payment or indentation device, such as cell phones and personal digital assistants.
Samples of the TDK 73S8024C, 73S8023C and 73S8010C are available now. The ICs are available in SO28 and in QNF32 packages. The new circuits are also available in lead-free and green materials. Production volumes will be available in the first quarter of 2005. Pricing starts at $2.00 each in 1,000-unit quantities. Demo boards are available now.
