PULS Presents ML100.102 DIN Rail Power Supply

November 09, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

PULS GmbH (Munich, Germany), a manufacturer of switch-mode power supplies for DIN rails, has raised the efficiency of its 12V devices to above 89% with a new circuit design. The PULS ML100.102 power supply unit achieves almost the same efficiency as the 24V ML100.100 (100W), and provides significant results to that of a comparable competitive product.

The PULS ML100.102 features a novel circuit design, which results in a 12V to 15V power supply unit that achieves almost the same efficiency as the 24V versions from PULS. In addition, the PULS device is not specified at 50°C, as is commercially usual, but at 60°C, as are the other PULS power supplies. If a small derating factor of 2W/K is allowed, the device can even be operated continuously at 70°C, even though such high ambient temperatures may not be usual. The output voltage can be varied continuously over the range from 12V to 15V; the rated output current is 7.5A. The ML100.102 power supply offers all the advantages of the ML 100 Series, including series and parallel connectivity, the "autoselect" wide-range input for any mains voltage in the world, and reliable spring-loaded terminals for rapid cable connection.

The device is protected against continuous short circuit, overload, idling, negative feed and transients in accordance VDE 0160/W2 under any possible load. Buffer times greater than 20ms are guaranteed, and the mean time between failures at full load is longer than 500,000 hours. The convection-cooled DIN rail power unit measures 73mm x 75mm x 103mm, and is suitable for installation in a variety of orientations.
