50V Automotive LDO Regulator handles 200mA

November 04, 2015 by Jeff Shepard

Seiko Instruments Inc. (SII) announced the release of the S-19200 Series automotive LDO regulator with high input voltage of 50V, adopting a newly developed compact package TO-252-5S (6.5 x 6.5 x t1.3 mm) with high heat dissipation. The new TO-252-5S can be mounted on the existing pad area of the industry standard TO-252-5 (DPAK) and has approximately the same heat dissipation, while realizing a mounting area reduction of 35% and height reduction of nearly 50%.

An even more compact HSOP-6 package (6.0 x 5.02 x t1.75 mm) capable of high heat dissipation is also available. This IC is suitable for automotive ECUs and typical applications include power supply for automotive interior electrical applications (car body, headlights, ITS, accessories, car navigation systems, car audio systems, etc.)

The S-19200 Series was specifically developed to meet the demanding high quality requirements for automotive use. The 50V maximum input voltage (rating 60V) and the operating temperature range up to 125 degrees C enable operations in high input voltage and high temperature applications. Moreover, the current consumption is an extremely low 4.0 μA typ. during operation, and the excellent load response characteristics allow this IC to be used in applications with large load fluctuations.

The output voltage is selectable from 2.0V to 15.0V in 0.1V steps and the input voltage range is 3.0V to 50V. The output accuracy is ±1.0% (Tj=+25 degree C) and a ceramic capacitor of 0.1 μF or more can be used for input and output capacitors. Additional features include overcurrent protection circuit, thermal shutdown circuit, and ON/OFF circuit.

The package is Lead-free (Sn 100%) and halogen-free. The S-19200 Series is AEC-Q100 qualified (contact SII sales offices for details) and the PPAP approval is also available. SII offers a thermal simulation service for the S-19200 Series which suggests thermal resistance values and recommended wiring ratio to help select appropriate package options.
