ZAP Introduces LEPTON Electric Scooter

September 24, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

ZAP (Sebastopol, CA) announced its new LEPTON electric scooter, a new moped-class scooter imported from Italy that incorporates classic Italian styling with the latest in electric-propulsion technology.

Named after the sub-atomic particle, the LEPTON costs about $0.15 for a 10-mile trip, which in a car would cost about $5. With zero-emission electric power, the LEPTON causes almost no pollution compared to similar gas-powered scooters. The LEPTON has a high-efficiency, microprocessor-controlled propulsion system, which allows it to travel up to 25mph for a range of up to 20 miles. The LEPTON recharges at any household outlet; just plug it in like a cell phone.

The LEPTON has all the other amenities of regular scooters, including variable grip throttle, suspension, front and rear brakes, lights, turn signals, full instrumentation, padded seat and rear cargo rack.

The LEPTON electric scooter is now available from ZAP for $2,995, including shipping and handling.
