Sanyo Electric Expands Prismatic Li-Ion Batteries

Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd. (Japan), a leader in rechargeable batteries, announced an increase in production of prismatic lithium-ion (Li-Ion) batteries that use a hybrid, lithium-cobalt oxide (LiCoO2) and lithium-manganese oxide (LiMn2O4) in the positive electrode. The new model (UF553450L) for mobile phones will expand production of batteries utilizing lithium-manganese oxide.

The new UF553450L battery features a battery capacity of 820 mAh, dimensions (including tube) of 5.5 mm x 34 mm x 50 mm, a weight of 19.0 g, an energy density volume of 324 Wh/L, and an energy density weight of 160 Wh/kg. The new batteries will begin shipping this month and initial month production will be 1,500,000 units.
