Murata Introduces 2W Single Output NMG DC-DC Converter Series

June 17, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

Murata Power Solutions has introduced a new range of isolated 2W single output dc-dc converters that deliver class-leading performance. The eight models in the NMG series are housed in small footprint (19.5 x 7.5 x 10.0mm high), industry-standard SIP packages that allow easy drop-in replacement of other devices. The new dc-dc converters also provide a pin compatible power upgrade path from Murata Power Solutions’ 1W NMR series.

The NMG series is particularly well suited to isolating and/or converting dc power rails. Galvanic isolation allows the devices to be configured to provide an isolated negative rail in systems where only positive rails exist. Devices are available with input voltages of either 5 or 12V, and a choice of 5, 9, 12 and 15V output voltages. Typical efficiency ratings are up to 88% and an isolation voltage of 1kVdc (flash tested for one second) is specified across the range. Suitability for use in high dependability applications is underlined by a MTTF of up to 3.9 million hours.

The space-efficient, fully encapsulated, UL94V-0 rated design has an SMD internal construction that uses the latest toroidal magnetic technology. No electrolytic or tantalum capacitors are used, and with no external components required, inclusion of the NMG series in customer designs is greatly simplified.

A full-load operating temperature range of -40 to +85°C without the need for external heatsinking makes the RoHS compliant NMG series suitable for use in a wide range of applications and environments.
