Taiyo Yuden CO., Ltd., introduced nine products, including the 1005-size medium-to-high voltage multilayer ceramic capacitor HMK105B7103KVHFE (1.0mm x 0.5mm x 0.5mm, with a rated voltage of 100V and a rated capacitance of 10000pF). The company says that the ceramic capacitors take advantage of its sophisticated the materials and process technologies to achieve about a 75% decrease in size compared to the company's conventional product HMK107B7103KAHT (1.6mm x 0.8mm x 0.8mm). These products are compatible with AEC-Q200.

These new will be used for anti-noise measures and snubber applications for power supply circuitry in automotive bodies and infotainment systems and IT infrastructure equipment such as servers and base-station communication devices.

Technology Background

The company notes that In recent years, more and more automotive power supply circuits have been driven at 48V, exemplified by those used in mild-hybrid vehicles.

However, along with performance enhancement and the market growth of IoT, IT infrastructure equipment including base-station communications devices and servers are employing switching-type dc-dc converters in their power supply circuits to attain higher efficiency.

In these power supply ICs, multilayer ceramic capacitors are utilized in the snubbers as a means of reducing noise on power supply input lines and reducing noise generated by switching circuits. Capacitors with a rated voltage of 100V have been used in such equipment to enhance reliability. As devices increase in functionality and use higher-density packaging, however, smaller on-board multilayer ceramic capacitors are desired.
