IXYS Presents New 600 V B2-Class of IGBTs

December 14, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

IXYS Corp. (Santa Clara, CA), a leader in power semiconductors for power conversion and motion control applications, introduced a new family of 600 V, short-circuit-rated, medium-speed IGBTs, which are suitable for motor control, automation industry, white goods appliance and industrial applications. The IGBTs are also optimal for inverters for electrical scooters and light electrical vehicles applications.

The new B2-Class IGBTs utilize IXYS' next-generation IGBT technology to provide improvements in efficiency for switching frequencies up to 30 kHz, while also providing short-circuit capability. Performance is further enhanced by a 25% reduction in thermal resistance, and up to 25% lower saturation voltage and low turn-off energy.

Initial B2-Class products will be targeted for applications ranging from 5 A to 40 A. They will be offered in standard, low-cost, through-hole TO-220, TO-247 and TO-3P packages, and surface-mount TO-263 and TO-268 packages. The company's proprietary isolated ISOPLUS™ packages are also available for large-volume opportunities, as well as options to provide discretely packaged, phase-leg options in IXYS' ISOPLUS i4-PAC™.
