Why not install linux on the old pc or laptop?
I am using open suse tumbleweed on my old pc and laptop.

When you install wine on the linux pc,
a lot of windows programs will run fine.
https://www.winehq.org/
I use wine to run ltspice on my linux pc.

As a Linux user, many of these concepts are foreign to me.

Who in there right mind would allow their digital lives to be taken over like this?

 

Still not sure about switching to Linux Mint?
